THE LIMITED-EDITION CASTLE VASES - MASTERPIECES OF ROMANIAN GLASSMAKING
Generations of people the world over know Romania and its famous Transylvania province, if at all, only through Bram Stoker's Dracula and countless film retellings of the frightening legend. We're familiar with dark, imposing castles sitting high on a mountainside, uninviting to the lost strangers outside seeking refuge from a raging storm, and terrifying for those who ultimately and unsuspectingly seek entry. The phantom of Vlad the Impalor (or Dracula's stage and screen creator, Bela Lugosi), whose nickname was Vlad Dracula, haunts every nook and cranny of these castles. At least that's the way it was in literature and on the stage and screen.
In our modern day three of Transylvania's most famous castles are prominently featured on handmade vases. Limited to 100 vases per castle - Bran - the castle most associated with Vlad/Dracula, Hunedoara, and Peles - they defy the horror of what we associate with the area in which they are located to give us a rare object of true beauty. Each is a unique reminder of the supreme craftsmanship of its Romanian creator.
As collectors of fine art in all of its manifestations we have become only recently aware that Romania produces and exports all over Europe some of the world's most exquisitely beautiful examples of hand-blown, etched, hand-decorated glass. The Global Connoisseur has sought stunning examples of these limited-edition masterpieces to offer to our clientele at incomparably low prices.
These vases are created by artisans who are proud to be part of the continuation of this long tradition in their country. Not content with the mundane and the banal, they strive to take their art to the highest levels, creating pieces unlike any other in this strongly competitive field. None is manufactured. You may be assured that each piece is an individually mouth-blown and intricately hand-decorated sample of the glassblower's art.
